An evening at The Lantern Society has restored my faith in music. It's been a while since I enjoyed watching new acts, well new to me. What's not to like about a human trumpet? I needed to see other people doing their thing and doing it well. There are a few underground folk nights dotted around the city. The Lantern Society in my opinion being one of the best. It does, of course, adhere to the folky night cliches with candles on each table, plenty of violins and the odd beret. But it is as sincere an enviroment as you'll find. I was blown away by a powerfull maori lady's poetry and nailed to my seat as a hybrid Sinatra cross Jack Johnson (the singer not the boxer)crooned his way into the pants of every good time girl in attendance. I need these things in my life. I need to be inspired and challenged. As part of the undercard I felt both. I'll be going back and would urge you to follow. In the mean time time check out these guys.
